How to change your registered office address?

Did you know that your Registered Office Address is on public display? When you formed your company you would have submitted a registered office address as part of your formation process. It is required by law that Companies House have an official registered office address for your company and this is placed on the pubic register and is searchable by anyone wishing to find out information about your company.

If you already have a Limited Company or Limited Liability Partnership in place and you are using your residential address as your Registered Office address, you can change this so that your home address no longer appears on the public record.  You can do this by using our London office service.

Your registered office address is a publicly available record that can be found through conducting a simple online search via Companies House. This means that anyone can actively search for your companies details online and then locate the address that you company is registered at. For many people starting a business and forming a Limited Company this information can be quite daunting, especially if you want to keep your business and personal life completely separate.

If you have your home address registered with Companies House then you could run the risk of unwanted strangers and cold-callers turning up at your front door unannounced. You will also leave your home address open to receiving tons of junk mail and promotional flyers. Your family may not like the thought of this, so for safety’s sake it makes sense to keep your private home address off public records wherever possible.

How do I update the address?

You can simply log onto the companies house website via the Web Filing service and this will allow you to amend your records to remove your current home address, replacing it with the latest updated version, which will be your smart new London address.

For customers who do not have access to the Web Filing facility or would prefer to send in their change of address via post, there is a form called FORM AD01 that they are able to download direct from the Companies House website. (Via the link above).

Companies House will verify your new address via the Post Office. This means they will check that the new address is correct and that it is fully complete. They require the full postcode on all forms and documents.
